Intern & Volunteer

The UCF Victim Services Program utilizes student interns and volunteers for a variety of projects and experiences. Internships are not paid, but do provide University credit. Contact your Internship Coordinator for additional information as different majors have specific requirements. The online application must be completed by the deadline for internship consideration in our program and the minimum requirements must be met.

Students interested in volunteering should complete the online application, and meet all the minimum requirements for consideration. If students are members of Knight Advocates additional consideration will be given to their application.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sophomore or Junior with specific interest in the field of victim advocacy/victim issues.
  • Minimum 2 semester commitment as an intern or student volunteer or combination of both
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA,
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain highest degree of confidentiality, work with diverse campus population groups, and be able to speak to small groups and fellow students about interpersonal violence.
  • Mandatory participation in training the week prior to the start of the Fall semester.
  • Must pass police background check prior to being offered a position with our program.
  • Background includes a Drug test, a Voice Stress Analysis (VSA), a Drivers License check and a Criminal Background check.

The following is a list of experiences and knowledge that an intern or volunteer will receive while working in the Victim Services Unit:

  • Participate in a comprehensive Victim Services Training
  • Learn basic crisis intervention skills
  • Interact with the Criminal justice system
  • Specific victimization issues include: sexual assault, stalking, domestic/relationship violence, and other issues as they arise.
  • Participate in a client/victim interview.
  • Transporting a client/victim to apply for an Injunction for Protection (IFP).
  • Participate in a police ride-along.
  • Participate in committees, networking organizations and advisory boards.
  • Participate in educational programming, including planning and presenting.
  • Presenting Victim Services information at orientations, fairs, and open houses.
  • Participate in special event planning, coordination, and implementation.
  • Participate in departmental meetings. In addition to the above experiences, each intern will have a specific responsibility or task based upon the individual's skills and experiences and the need of the Victim Services Unit.
